Make sure your visitors are "pushing your buttons."

Have your parents ever said to you "stop pushing my buttons"? This meant that you were doing exactly what you needed to do in order to get from them what you wanted or to create a certain response. This is how you should think about your web design. When someone visits your site, do they know exactly what to do in order to get to where they're going or obtain the information they are looking for? Are your buttons clear enough to leave no doubt in your visitors minds where they are going to take them?

Here are four easy steps to make sure your creating buttons that beg to be pushed.

1st- Prioritize
Design a single, clear, visually appealing and eye drawing call-to-action button on your main page. If you need more than one make sure you prioritize their importance by coloring the non-primary buttons in a color less visually interesting. (i.e. smaller, duller colors).
If you design two buttons side by side, keep in mind that the one on the right is proven to be the most likely to be clicked.

2nd- Experiment with Format
Play around with your different format options in order to see what works best for your site.
Some format options you may have are: Shape, Dimensionality, Color, Visual Embellishments, and Size. Remember to make your primary button radically larger and bright in an eye popping color.

3rd- Be Specific and Manage Expectations
Make sure your buttons always describe exactly what they will do when they are pushed. Try not to cause any confusion for your visitors when they are trying to figure out the opportunity presented by your button. Try to use a simple, standard vocabulary and don't try to be funny or cute for some of your audience may not follow. Always keep in mind that the internet is international and some viewers could be of different cultures or languages and may find it hard to understand unfamiliar expressions.

4th- Label From the Perspective of your Visitors
Try to always predict your visitors expectations by completing the sentence "I want to...". Examples of this would be "Start my free trial", "Get details", "Download" or "Select this plan". Never assume that a button that works on your competitors site will work for yours and always keep in mind that the only way to know what works best for your site is to test it.

We are all here for the same reasons

Last night Aj and I went to Young Professionals of the Tetons (YPT)'s Spring Networking Event at "The Lounge" at Snow King. My consensus of the group of folks I met last night was: we are all here for the same reasons -- we all want to make a good living so we can continually live out here.

It was refreshing to have a chance to meet such young, creative and enthusiastic people. All professionals that are lucky enough to be out here for one and two want to continually watch good things emerge from this town and make things happen together!

Join YPT on LinkedIn -- a great resource for those looking to start or advance their careers, create or grow their business, or simply make new connections in a place we all feel lucky to call home.

MountainWeather.com goes Mobile

QR Code to MountainWeather Mobile
(use QR Code Reader to scan)
We put together a new mobile version of MountainWeather.com and it made perfect sense. The main reason was, well weather happens outside and people are on the go and can access anything online with their phones or other devices very quickly. The mobile version is formatted to fit your mobile device, giving you access to the information you want that much quicker. This option made a lot more sense rather than an App, because not all Apps are compatible with all devices, by simply bookmarking this site, visitors can access it easily without downloading anything. No more "pinching" or "scrolling" to find the relevant information, the mobile version makes visiting friendlier. Enjoy!

Excerpt from Travel Daily News: On topic of how folks vacation and what the best way to strategize through the trends of technology in 2012
Mobile
The consumer sentiment on mobile is they tend to book on smartphones only as a necessity, Rheem said. Mobile limitations such as small screens, the inability to view multiple browsing windows and awkward typing are disadvantages to many consumers. However, sometimes mobile is the right tool for the job, considering mapping capabilities and last-minute travel opportunities, Rheem said. Travel consumers use their browsers on smartphones rather than apps because most leisure travelers do not have constant interaction with traveling. They do not want to download an app that will sit on their phones for ages without much use. “For 2012, we are expecting to see greater experimentation and growth,” Rheem said of the mobile space.
